Abstract

New application areas for implanted medical devices such as drug delivery systems, intracranial pressure monitoring devices and artificial kidneys are emerging. These implanted devices will also be networked as more and more (elderly) people have multiple diseases that can benefit from implanted devices. We have recently shown that the human body's adipose (fat) tissue can be used as a communication channel for radio frequency-based communication. In this talk, I will present some details about this recently discovered communication channel. Furthermore, I will discuss some of our efforts regarding security and privacy issues in in-body sensor networks.
